What this page will cover
Latin America is the region where the phone call and the messaging thread are one conversation. Customers expect a voice agent to confirm on WhatsApp during the call, and buyers evaluate the hand-off between the two channels before they evaluate the voice. The second feature is language: Spanish is not one variant, and an agent tuned for Spain or for Mexico will stumble in Buenos Aires or Bogota. Brazilian Portuguese is a market of its own, with regional accents and identity-number read-back as the common gates. The third feature is regulation by country: Brazil's LGPD, Mexico's federal law and a set of sector rules for financial data, none of which we have yet verified to the standard of a compliance row.
What is not yet covered
No compliance rows exist for this region, so the regulations list on this page is empty by design. We have not verified telemarketing hours, do-not-call registers or recording-consent rules for any country, nor the numbering and CLI practices of the carriers. No market figures appear because we have not found a publisher-dated estimate we can show side by side with another. No vendor list appears until at least eight names can be listed with public documentation of regional Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese support.
What the newsletter will announce
The weekly issue will announce when this page is published, with at least Brazil and Mexico compliance rows, verified market figures, a language-gate section per variant and the vendor list.
Languages to test
| Language | Code | What to test |
|---|---|---|
| Spanish (Latin America) | es-419 | Not one variant. Mexican, Colombian, Argentine, Chilean and Caribbean Spanish differ in pace, vocabulary and the pronoun system; test with callers from each country you serve. |
| Portuguese (Brazil) | pt-BR | The largest single market; regional accents from Sao Paulo to the Northeast; numbers and CPF read-back are the gates. |
Data residency and hosting
Brazil's LGPD and Mexico's federal data-protection law regulate transfers with conditions; several countries have sector rules for financial data. Not yet verified in depth.
Questions to ask vendors in this market
- 01
Show the agent handling a call that starts on the phone and continues on WhatsApp, with the confirmation message sent during the call.
A good answer: A live demonstration where the message arrives on the tester's handset before the call ends.
- 02
Which Spanish variants are production-tested on telephone audio, and can we hear a Mexican and an Argentine caller handled in one demo?
A good answer: Named variants with test calls, not a single 'Spanish' entry in a language table.
- 03
Where is Brazilian customer audio processed and stored, and how is the LGPD lawful basis for recording documented?
A good answer: A hosting region, a sub-processor list and the lawful basis in a document we can read.
